Peter Oakes is experienced running multi-divisional and multinational companies in both private and public sectors. He has extensive experience in organizations in transition or operating in difficult situations.

Before joining Atticus, Peter spent more than 30 years in increasingly senior management roles across a wide range of industries and sectors. At various times, he served as an executive vice president, chief financial officer and vice president in real estate, construction, financial services, information and manufacturing. He has also spent over ten years sitting on several different boards of directors. Most recently, Peter was CFO of Ontario Realty Corporation, a Crown corporation managing more than $3-billion worth of provincially owned real estate.

At Foresters, as a key member of the senior management team, Peter helped develop a new strategy to rekindle growth in the organization. For example, he simplified the organization’s $5-billion investment portfolio, a process that included selling their real estate holdings and most of the Canadian mortgage portfolio and the U.S. mortgage watch list. He also reorganized facility usage at head office, reducing space by 12% and annual operating costs by $1.5-million.

At Wimpey Peter instituted cash management systems, structured land review processes and restructured staff benefit plans - all contributing to improved cash flows.  Also, he negotiated the sale of non-core businesses. He also worked in the United States for five years as CFO for a San Diego-based information, software, and publishing organization with five divisions operating throughout North America.
